La Traviata

Our first performance at the Academy Center of the Arts' Historic Theatre!

Glorious melody and scenes of love and tragedy make La Traviata one of the most popular operas ever written. Through her talents and charm, the courtesan Violetta has reached the pinnacle of her fame in the Paris of the 1850’s. Her party-going life changes forever when she falls truly in love for the first time. Alfredo, the object of her love, escapes with her to a country life of simple joys and domestic tranquility. But the mores of the time forbid their happiness. Alfredo’s father meets Violetta in secret and convinces her to renounce her love for the sake of his family’s honor. She does so, with tragic results. Verdi’s transcendent music brings us to under-stand and pity all of the characters, as death and remorse engulf their fates.
