Young Artist Program
Tyler Young Artist Program
We welcome soprano Raquel Suarez Groen, tenor Chase Taylor, bass-baritone Brandon Coleman, and coach Thomas Getty to Lynchburg for the fourth season of the Tyler Young Artist Program. The Young Artists will perform roles in the fall main stage operas, Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica, give mixed-genre and themed concerts in community venues in Lynchburg and Central Virginia, and present OPERA MANIA, an opera education show, in schools and community venues in Lynchburg and Rustburg.
Accompanist and vocal coach Thomas Getty has been a regular music staff member at Central City Opera in Colorado for 17 summer seasons, accompanying audition classes for Artistic Director Emeritus John Moriarty, movement classes, opera scenes, preparing main stage productions, music directing the chamber opera The Face On The Barroom Floor, and providing surtitles for main stage performances; he was honored last summer with the Adelaide Bishop Award for meritorious service to the company. In the past, he has served as principal coach for Utah Symphony and Opera in Salt Lake City and Anchorage Opera in Alaska (later promoted to Assistant Artistic Director); he has also provided music accompaniment for Pittsburgh Opera Center, Rutgers University, and American Repertory Ballet Company. Originally from Metuchen NJ, Mr. Getty holds a Bachelor degree from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, and a Master degree in coaching and accompanying from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. Mr. Getty is the Resident Coach of Opera on the James Tyler Young Artist Program.
