Roland A. Guidry, Set & Costume Design
Roland A. Guidry comes to Opera on the James after a long career of designing and teaching. Roland has designed costumes Boston Lyric Opera, Central City Opera, New England Conservatory Opera, Boston Conservatory Opera, Dance and Music Theater, MIT, and six years on the faculty of University of South Florida as well as some film and TV credits in the Boston area. Occasionally he enjoys a foray into scenic design as well. Other professional credits include work with The Boston Camerata, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Boston International Early Music Festival and StageWorks in Tampa. He received a BFA from North Carolina School of the Arts and did graduate study at Boston University and College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.

Retiring to Martinsville, VA, Roland now focuses on studio art work, renovating a c. 1920 farmhouse and gardening. Having the opportunity to work with a relatively new and growing opera company fills a desire to contribute to the development on the opera art form in a new region and he looks forward to a continuing relationship with Opera on the James.
