Kevin Wetzel, Baritone

Baritone Kevin Wetzel continues to earn critical praise as he progresses through a national career centered on leading roles. Acclaimed for his “luxurious and exciting baritone” and “virtually flawless technique,” he has also been hailed as “a remarkably graceful and physically precise actor.” His 2017 engagements have included his European debut as Tarquinius in a new production of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre of Ostrava (Czech Republic), his Carolina Philharmonic debut performing the Carmen Toreador aria at Carnegie Hall, an anticipated role debut as Valentin in Faust, and his return to Lyric Opera Baltimore as baritone soloist in Viva Verismo, a concert program in which he performed arias and scenes from Pagliacci, Tosca, Il tabarro, and Andrea Chénier. During the 2017-2018 season, Mr. Wetzel joins the Center for Contemporary Opera for Scare Pair, a double bill of operas by Gordon Getty which will be reprised in partnership with Los Angeles Opera, thus marking Mr. Wetzel’s Los Angeles Opera debut.
