Driving Directions to the Academy of Fine Arts, Lynchburg

From Richmond

Follow Powhite Expressway south, then 288 east to Rt. 360 South or West. Follow 360 through Chesterfield and Amelia, and take exit for Rt. 307 West toward Farmville and Rt. 460. (307 is very clearly marked as turn for 460.) At intersection with 460, go right (West) on 460) , and follow “From Farmville” below.

From Farmville

Follow Rt. 460 West through Prince Edward, Appomattox, and Campbell Counties to Lynchburg.

As you approach Lynchburg, take the right-hand entrance ramp (it is new!) onto Rt. 29 north toward Charlottesville. Get off at the first exit, which loops around; go right (west) on Rt. 210. Follow 210 for several miles and though several lights (including one for Business Route 29) to its end, where it hits Rt. 163.

Go left (south) on Rt. 163. You will quickly cross the James River. At the first light after the river, take a left onto Commerce Street. You are looking at The Academy’s Warehouse Theater as you go left onto Commerce. The first driveway on Commerce has a handicapped entrance on the lower level and a drop-off entrance on the upper level.

The second driveway is the entrance to Genworth Financial parking lot, which is available to all Academy patrons after 5 PM and on weekends. Park anywhere!

From Charlottesville:

Follow Rt. 29 South. After Rt. 60 and the Town of Amherst, stay to your left on the new Rt. 29 bypass.

Exit for Rt. 210/Historic Downtown Lynchburg. Go right (west) at the top of the exit ramp onto Rt. 210. Follow 210 for several miles and though several lights (including one for Business Route 29) to its end, where it hits Rt. 163.

Go left (south) on Rt. 163. You will quickly cross the James River. At the first light after the river, take a left onto Commerce Street. You are looking at The Academy’s Warehouse Theater as you go left onto Commerce. The first driveway on Commerce has a handicapped entrance on the lower level and a drop-off entrance on the upper level.

From Lexington:

Go east on Rt. 60, and in Buena Vista take Rt. 501 South. Follow through the James River Face gorge through the Blue Ridge. At the Snowden dam, go straight on Rt. 130. (501 will go right across the river). Follow 130 to the major intersection (Sheetz gas, BB&T bank, Walgreens drugstore) with Rt 29 Business; go right on Rt. 29 Business.

Just after a large Lowe’s store on your right, take the right-hand exit for Rt. 163 and downtown Lynchburg. After Rt. 163 crosses the James River, take the first left, and the Academy of Fine Arts will be on your right. The first driveway has handicapped entrance on the lower level and a drop-off entrance on the upper level.

The second driveway is the entrance to Genworth Financial parking lot, which is available to all Academy patrons after 5 PM and on weekends. Park anywhere!

From Roanoke:

Take Route 460 East. After the interchange for Route 29 South/Airport Rt 29 North Lynchburg, take the next left exit for Candler's Mountain Road/ Route 501 North.

After the second light, stay in the right lane and take the entrance ramp onto Rt. 29 North. Follow Rt. 29 North to the exit for Main Street/Downtown. Take this, which will put you west-bound on Main Street.

At the second light, take a soft right onto Commerce Street. Follow Commerce past Seventh Street, then look on your left for the Academy of Fine Arts Warehouse Theater drop-off and parking areas.

From Danville:

Take Rt. 29 North; after Lynchburg airport, do not take Rt. 29 exit for Charlottesville, but stay straight,. Just after the River Ridge Mall entrance, take the right exit for Rt. 29 North.

Follow Rt. 29 North to the exit for Main Street/Downtown. Take this, which will put you west-bound on Main Street. At the second light, take a soft right onto Commerce Street. Follow Commerce past Seventh Street, then look on your left for the Academy of Fine Arts Warehouse Theater drop-off and parking areas.
